My order from Jeff at btskinks.com arrived this week, a baby blue--tongued skink named 'Rhino.'
He was quite grumpy with me after his overnight flight from Arizona, but he's adapted quite well to his new surroundings, all things considered.
Here are a couple of video clips: one of him flicking his tongue and one of him eating a tasty treat.
These animals don't seem all that common in the pet reptile scene. I don't know why. Even as a skittish baby, Rhino is the coolest lizard I've ever met. He's huffy when first approached, but I've been able to hold him without biting or struggling. He's an interesting animal, too, as he is curious and into everything, almost like a very slow ferret with scales.
I stopped by your blog after seeing this picture of 40K ponies (http://www.3t-studios.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/cc3.jpg) only to see this awesome lizard! My brother and I had an iguana growing up, but it never did anything except run as fast as it could away from us. It looks like this guy is already cooler than that.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I must say that whoever made the pony squad of Ultramarines has my respect. I especially love the chainsword horns.
DeleteAbout lizards: I've heard that iguanas can be tricky to tame, or at least more tricky than blue tongues or bearded dragons, which sort of makes me curious why they appear on some top x lists for pet lizards. Plus, I've heard their (iguanas') tail whipping can be rather painful!
